Make a Bigger Impact with Susan Peghiny

Listen Later

Wondering how to have a bigger impact in your community and in the world? Second guessing yourself, thinking:  What do I have to contribute? Well, you’ve come to the right podcast, because there is no better person to unpack the many virtues and the far reach of ROTARY than our guest, Sue Peghiny. Having navigated many transitions and reinventions in her life,  from Clock & Watch Repair to receptionist to European Sales Manager to Rotarian leader extraordinaire, Sue speaks convincingly and wholeheartedly about the life changing and world changing contributions of Rotary clubs across the globe.

Sue Peghiny got involved in the Rotary, having spent most of her life never feeling like she was much of a leader. The Rotary was not concerned and gave her a spot and then, realizing Sue’s ability to organize, gave her the opportunity to lead, learn public speaking and to make a significant impact in her community and beyond. In this fun, accessible conversation, hear how this gentle woman is helping to change the world by furthering the mission of this amazing organization and, simultaneously, how Rotary changed who she is and how she moves through the world.

Highlights include:

“If you want to contribute, if you want to network, if you want to meet people, if you want to have an impact, then you can be a Rotarian. “

“I have grown as a person in ways I never would have expected. I feel like my whole life I wanted to be a leader and I could never get there. And the roadie was like, oh, yeah, sure. Be a leader and it puts me up in front of people  - like get to talk. It really grew me as a person. It's okay to get something out of volunteering. And the best part of anything I do with Rotary, especially the service projects, the hands on service project is it's always fun. I have never done a hands-on service project that it was fun. So if you want to have fun, you want to meet people and you want to do some good in the world, you should be a Rotarian.”

“In our club, we're right in the middle of a textile recycling program, what we do is once a month, basically, we go out to the back of a mall, and people bring bags and bags and bags and bags and bags of old socks, clothing, rugs, stuffed animals, pocket, book, shoes, all kinds of things. And the goal is to get those things out of a waste stream.”
