Have YOU heard? January 13

Hold onto your rubber duckies, because today is National Rubber Ducky Day! These squeaky friends first paddled into our hearts in the 1800s, but they really made a splash on Sesame Street. I guess you could say they're pretty "quack-tastic!" Did you know the world's largest rubber duck was 61 feet tall? Talk about getting all your ducks in a row!

And speaking of things that float your boat, on this day in 1888, the National Geographic Society was founded! They sure "mapped" out their success well – get it? But here's something that'll really put you on the map: their first magazine didn't have a single photograph in it! I guess you could say they were still developing their style!

Now, lettuce tell you about another celebration – it's National Peach Melba Day! This dessert was created in 1892 by French chef Auguste Escoffier for opera singer Nellie Melba. Talk about hitting a sweet note! The chef was obviously thinking outside the box... the icebox, that is!

Here's a birthday that'll make you flip – Julia Louis-Dreyfus was born on this day in 1961! Before becoming the queen of comedy, she actually worked as a clown at birthday parties. I guess you could say she was just clowning around before making it big!

And here's something that'll really get your circuits buzzing – on January 13th, 1942, Henry Ford patented a plastic car body made from soybeans! Talk about bean-ing creative! Though it never made it to production, the car was 1,000 pounds lighter than steel cars. You could say it was ahead of its time, but the idea just didn't grow on people!
