Albeit unknowingly, most of the free world appreciates that cops have long accepted the mental and physical abuse that often comes with the profession. 

For this sacrifice, the law enforcement community has been rewarded with widespread public support through the  punishment of those that engaged in this type of behavior.  

With attacks against police officers and the public becoming more frequent and violent, now only the criminals are being rewarded.
