Tsonkyni and her husband Trulku, who has physical disability, were prevented by Chinese authorities from returning to their home in Tibet after a visit to India to meet the Dalai Lama.
Now living on the Gold Coast, she says Trulku is benefiting greatly from NDIS support, even while the worry remains for family back in Tibet.
Meanwhile Fatima is an Australian-born woman of Turkish descent, whose family was living in Turkey when her son Mertcan acquired hypoxic brain injury.
They returned to Australia both to get away from the political situation in Turkey and to create a better life for Mertcan, who know receives therapies and support through the NDIS.
