Making Cancer Fun with Tara Geraghty

Listen Later

It’s the worst case scenario. The horrifying words no parent ever wants to hear: Your child has cancer.

In 2009, Tara Geraghty heard those unthinkable words, learning that her 3-year-old daughter had been diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma.

There is no way to be prepared for it. A dizzying amount of frightening emotions inevitably follow, and a family can be left at a loss for what to do. The most painful part is that the child is just as scared, if not more. Kids take cues from their parents and feed off of the emotions they are displaying. Their very survival might depend on the emotions which their family shows around them.

Tara decided that she was going to do everything she could to make sure her daughter maintained a positive attitude. Fun was the name of the game, and she wanted to make sure that she and her daughter lived it every day.

Join us as we sit down with Tara to discuss her experience of learning about her daughter’s diagnosis, why she chose to take a non-traditional approach to her care, and how she stays focused and productive in her busy life.
