The Dual Axis

Making Data Work FOR People with Kim Rees

Listen Later

Kim Rees is a frequent keynote speaker and design executive. On this episode of The Dual Axis Podcast, I'll be talking to Kim about her work in making data work for people instead of people work for data.

I first met Kim in 2014 at the Tapestry conference. Back then, Kim was the Co-founder and Head of Visualization at Periscopic. In 2018, Kim started the data experience team at Capital One.

Kim has a keen interest in using data to make a social impact. At Periscopic, her work was used to promote data transparency and public awareness and deliver messages of action. Education, government, gun violence, politics, tech, she’s done it all.

In this episode we cover:

Building  team

  • What does it mean to make data work for people instead of people work for data?
  • How can we influence our teams and our companies this way?
  • How to build a team and how to find the right people for that team?

Politics

  • What's wrong in our divided society and what can we do about it?
  • What role does data play in fixing the problems it has caused?
  • How do we separate fact from fiction?
  • What's one thing we can do immediately that would help politics move forward?

As well as some fun questions.
