Even in cases where it seems like the work of someone else, it is obvious that this is his creation. There are times where Longlegs resembles a film you've seen before, but with an evil twist applied. This is a strength and a drawback since Perkins' horror surrealism makes the odd seem familiar and the familiar seem strange. That makes us, the audience, open to attack and provides the ideal opening for something sinister to infiltrate. Osgood Perkins lends his distinctive design to a serial killer procedural that blends unsettling Satanic horror with graphic real-crime visuals. Maika Monroe plays a courageous FBI agent in the style of Clarice Starling in the film It Follows, and Nicolas Cage plays her Buffalo Bill since no one else could pull off the part better. A supernatural component distorts our perception of reality.
