Carl Tanzler had a unique vision as a child. At age twelve, an ancestor appeared to him and showed him a beautiful, dark-featured woman who would one day be his wife. 
Well, Carl grew old, and life came and went without ever meeting his promised love for almost 50 years until a tuberculosis-ridden young woman strolled into his hospital.  Where the story goes from there is beyond belief.
