Remembering Sydney Schanberg, Noel Neill, Jim Hickman
Sydney Schanberg was Pulitzer Prize winning reporter who, along with his Cambodian companion, Dith Pran, reported the horrors of the Khmer Rouge to the outside world. Following the American exodus from Vietnam the Communist Khmer Rouge enslave the entire populace of Cambodia and killed an estimated two million out of seven million, in their attempts to make Cambodian a perfect Communist state. At the risk of their lives, Schanberg and Pran told the story which became the basis for the 1984 movie, The Killing Fields. Noel Neill is best known for playing Lois Lane in the Superman movie serials of the late 1940’s and then in the television series of the 1950’s. Jim Hickman was a member of the original 1962 New York Mets who had his greatest success with the Chicago Cubs of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
