On June 30, the Bear River Health Department issued a warning advisory for Mantua Reservoir after state samplers confirmed a harmful algal bloom capable of producing cyanotoxins. “Algae in the water is producing high levels of dangerous toxins,” the department warned. “Accidentally drinking this water may hurt or kill hu- mans and animals. Any exposure to this water may cause illness.” The Utah Division of Water Quality reiterated the caution that same day: “BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present at Mantua Reservoir.
