Publisher's Summary:
With stirring storytelling evocative of Diana Gabaldon and Francine Rivers, this epic 18th-century novel transports listeners to the Ohio-Kentucky frontier and a monumental encounter over a stolen child.
When settler Clare Inglesby is widowed on a mountain crossing and her young son, Jacob, captured by Shawnees, she'll do everything in her power to get him back, including cross the Ohio River and march straight into the presence of her enemies deep in Indian country. Frontiersman and adopted Shawnee Jeremiah Ring promises to guide Clare through the wilderness and help her recover Jacob. Once they reach the Shawnees and discover his own sister, Rain Crow, has taken custody of Jacob - renaming him Many Sparrows - keeping his promise becomes far more complicated, the consequences more wrenching, than Jeremiah could have foreseen.
Fearing the sacrifice required is beyond what he's willing to make, Clare devises her own plan to free her son - one that could lead to the disasters Jeremiah is trying to prevent. As feelings for Clare begin to stir his long-guarded heart, he must convince her that they will have to do the hardest thing of all if she hopes to see her son restored to her: be still, wait, and let God fight this battle for them.

Going Back For More
Second book by this gifted author, Lori Benton. I waited for this one and am so fulfilled by her works. She speaks so naturally through her characters about our life's path. God as the creator and author of our purposes here. The settings are spectacular. Well researched and the plot, dialog and drama is entertainment at its finest. You would want to have these folks as family, neighbors and friends. I love the Native American culture and how they are represented in her books. She has so much depth of wisdom and humanity in her stories I am likening her work to Laura Frantz and other great authors of our day.
A New Favorite!
Having read other of Lori Benton's books and loving them, I must say that "Many Sparrows" is my favorite. This area being of personal interest because of my ancestry there. The weaving of Native Americans and those braving the frontier can be rather tangled. Then throw in romance in desperate times, and I was robbed of sleep being unable to put it down. The book had me entranced from the start with its pages jam packed from the very beginning. It's just a little thing, but an example of her delightful writing is her phrasing, "a chattering creek" took me instantly there, and pleasantly so.
I sure wish I could have read her novels when I was in school to go along with the the boring history text books
Lori Bentons historical novels are always full of excitement and unable to put down the book storys of past times in this country in the begining times for our country. I sure wish I could have read her novels when I was in school to go along with the the boring history text books, haha. But now Im doing catch up now. She is so acurate on her fact finding resurch and she knows how to put it in story form. This particular brings more of the native indians side of the story.
