SUNY Canton engineering students spent a recent blustery Saturday helping local historians in Ogdensburg map out the footprint of a 19th century military fort. Engineering and Construction Management students used scopes, surveying tape and stakes to lay out the boundaries of Fort de la Presentation on Van Rensselaer Point.

Volunteers with the Fort de la Presentation have been developing the site for the last 20 years, and are hoping to eventually build a replica of the War of 1812 fort.

With the help of the students, the association is putting together a phone app that will augment a series of trails at the site that will allow visitors to better visualize the historic site. Todd Moe stopped by while the SUNY Canton student surveying crew and volunteers gathered to map out local history.
