Christian Prayer:
Morning Prayer for Wednesday of the 3rd Week of Lent
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
When I survey the wondrous cross
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 Give joy to your servant, Lord; to you I lift up my heart.
Psalm 86
Turn your ear, O Lord, and give answer
You are my God, have mercy on me, Lord,
O Lord, you are good and forgiving,
In the day of distress I will call
All the nations shall come to adore you
Show me, Lord, your way
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart
The proud have risen against me;
But you, God of mercy and compassion,
O give your strength to your servant
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
God of mercy and goodness, when Christ called out to you in torment, you heard him and gave him victory over death because of his love for you. We already know the affection you have for us; fill us with a great love of your name, and we will proclaim you more boldly before men and happily lead them to celebrate your glory.
Ant. Give joy to your servant, Lord; to you I lift up my heart.
Ant. 2 Blessed is the upright man, who speaks the truth.
Canticle – Isaiah 33:13-16
Hear, you who are far off,
On Zion sinners are in dread,
He who practices virtue and speaks honestly,
He shall dwell on the heights,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. Blessed is the upright man, who speaks the truth.
Ant. 3 Let us celebrate with joy in the presence of our Lord and King.
Psalm 98
Sing a new song to the Lord
The Lord has made known his salvation;
All the ends of the earth have seen
Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp
Let the sea and all within it, thunder;
Rejoice at the presence of the Lord,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Lord Jesus, you have revealed your justice to all nations. We stood condemned and you came to be judged in our place. Send your saving power on us and when you come in glory bring your mercy to those for whom you were condemned.
Ant. Let us celebrate with joy in the presence of our Lord and King.
READING Deuteronomy 7:6, 8-9
The Lord, your God, has chosen you from all the nations on the face of the earth to be a people peculiarly his own. It was because the Lord loved you and because of his fidelity to the oath he had sworn to your fathers, that he brought you out with his strong hand from the place of slavery, and ransomed you from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. Understand, then, that the Lord, your God, is God indeed, the faithful God who keeps his merciful covenant to the thousandth generation toward those who love him and keep his commandments.
Sacred Silence(indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.
RESPONSORY
God himself will set me free, from the hunter’s snare.
From those who would trap me with lying words
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH
Ant. The Lord said: Do not think that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them.
Luke 1:68 – 79
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High;
In the tender compassion of our God
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
Ant. The Lord said: Do not think that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them.
INTERCESSIONS
Blessed be God, the giver of salvation, who decreed that mankind should become a new creation in himself, when all would be made new. With great confidence let us ask him:
Lord, you promised a new heaven and a new earth; renew us daily through your Spirit,
Help us to work with you to make this world alive with your Spirit,
Free us from all negligence and sloth,
Deliver us from evil,
Our Father who art in heaven,
Concluding Prayer
Grant,
DISMISSAL
May the Lord bless us,
