As we reflect on Ash Wednesday, a day of repentance and remembrance of our mortality, we turn to the Gospel of John, where we see the fulfillment of John the Baptist’s proclamation: "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29).
In John 19:34, the Gospel recounts how a soldier pierced Jesus' side, and from it flowed blood and water—powerful symbols of our salvation. This moment ties directly to the purpose of Christ’s sacrifice: to cleanse us from sin and restore us to God.
