“The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward. Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die.” — Proverbs 11:18–19 (ESV)

“And he said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.’” — Job 1:21 (ESV)

“In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.” — Job 1:22 (ESV)

Ever had one of those days—or even weeks—where it feels like everything goes wrong? You studied hard but still failed the test, or a friend you trusted let you down. That’s kind of what happened to Job, except his bad day was on a whole other level—he lost everything in Job 1–2: his wealth, his family, even his health. Yet in the middle of his pain, Job didn’t give up on God. He understood what Proverbs 11 teaches: staying faithful to God leads to life, even when life itself feels like it’s falling apart.

Job’s story reminds us that trusting God isn’t about everything going our way; it’s about believing He is good even when life isn’t.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Faith Under Pressure: How do you usually react when things go wrong—anger, fear, giving up, or trusting God? What can Job’s response teach you about staying faithful when life is tough?

2. True Reward: According to Proverbs 11:18–19, what kind of “reward” comes from living righteously? Why do you think this reward is described as “sure,” even when life feels uncertain?

3. God’s Bigger Plan: How might challenges you face be opportunities for your faith to grow stronger instead of weaker?

BOTTOM LINE

Real faith isn’t proven when life is easy—it’s proven when we trust God even when life hurts.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being with me when life feels overwhelming. Help me to stay faithful and trust Your goodness, even when I don’t understand what’s happening. Grow my faith through the hard times so I can say like Job, “Blessed be the name of the Lord.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
