“An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.” — Proverbs 12:4 (ESV)

“Is not your wickedness great? There is no end to your iniquities. For you have taken pledges from your brothers for nothing, and you have stripped the naked of their clothing…You have sent widows away empty-handed, and the arms of the fatherless are crushed.” — Job 22:5–7 (ESV)

“The eyes of the wicked are on the ground, and they do not see a happy future.” — Job 24:13 (ESV)

Life can feel like a series of tests—at school, at home, or even in friendships. We see in Proverbs 12:4 that the kind of character we build affects everyone around us, not just ourselves. Job’s friends point out the consequences of choices that hurt others, as highlighted in Job 22 and 24, reminding us that selfish or careless actions can leave lasting damage. Maybe you’ve seen someone treated unfairly or felt the weight of watching wrong choices spiral out of control. It can feel discouraging, like you’re powerless, but the good news is that God calls you to live differently. You can choose integrity, kindness, and courage even when it’s unpopular. Living with character isn’t always easy, but it shapes your future and influences those around you for the better.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Character Counts: Your actions and choices affect others. How can you show integrity and kindness in your daily life, even when no one is watching?

2. Consequences of Choices: Reflecting on Job 22:5–7, how can selfish or careless behavior impact people around you? What steps can you take to avoid causing harm?

3. Hope in God: Even when the world seems unfair or you see wrong going unchecked (Job 24:13), how can trusting God help you stay strong and live righteously?

BOTTOM LINE

The character you build today shapes your future and leaves a positive mark on everyone around you.
