“The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous escapes from trouble. Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die. The mouth of the righteous man is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.” — Proverbs 12:13–14 (ESV)

“Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.” — Psalm 32:1–2 (ESV)

“Surely God will not do wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice. Who is he that speaks and it comes to pass, if the Lord has not commanded it?” — Job 34:12–13 (ESV)

Have you ever said something you immediately regretted? Maybe a joke that hurt a friend, or words you wish you could take back. Proverbs 12 reminds us that words have power—they can trap us or set us free. Psalm 32 shows the freedom that comes when we are honest with God, confessing our mistakes instead of hiding them. Even Job wrestled with questions of fairness and truth in Job 34–35, realizing that God sees everything and is always just.

In our daily lives, it’s tempting to speak before we think, blame others, or hide our wrong choices. But God wants us to be intentional with our words and actions, to walk in righteousness, and to trust His fairness even when life feels confusing. Choosing honesty, confession, and careful speech doesn’t just keep us out of trouble—it opens the door to peace, freedom, and blessing.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. The Power of Words: Think of a recent conversation—did your words build someone up or bring harm? How can you use your words as a “fountain of life” this week (Proverbs 12:14)?

2. Confession Brings Freedom: Are there things you’ve been hiding from God or others? How can confessing them like Psalm 32 describes bring peace to your heart?

3. Trusting God’s Justice: When life feels unfair, how can remembering that God is always just (Job 34:12–13) help you respond with patience instead of anger or resentment?

BOTTOM LINE

Your words and honesty shape your life—choose to speak truth, seek forgiveness, and trust God’s justice.
