The righteous hates falsehood, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace. Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, but sin overthrows the wicked. — Proverbs 13:5–6
So Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. — Genesis 46:1
Then Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land… — Genesis 47:11
Have you ever felt nervous about a big change—like moving schools, starting a new job, or stepping into a situation where everything feels unfamiliar? That’s exactly where Jacob (also called Israel) found himself in Genesis 46–47. After years of thinking his son Joseph was gone, Jacob learned Joseph was alive and ruling in Egypt. But moving his whole family there? That was a major leap. Still, Jacob paused to worship and seek God first, and God assured him it was the right move.
Meanwhile, Proverbs 13 reminds us that doing what’s right—walking in truth and righteousness—protects us, even when life takes unexpected turns.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Check the Direction: Are you seeking God first when you face a big decision, like Jacob did in Genesis 46:1? Or are you rushing ahead without asking Him for guidance?
2. Character Counts: Proverbs 13:5–6 talks about how righteousness “guards” your way. What choices in your life show that you’re walking in truth and integrity—even when no one’s watching?
3. God Provides: Joseph prepared a place for his family during famine. How does this remind you that God often uses people and situations to care for you, even in unfamiliar territory?

BOTTOM LINE
When we choose righteousness and seek God’s direction, He guards our path and provides what we need—even in seasons of big change.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for always being with me, especially when life feels uncertain. Help me to choose what’s right and trust that You’re guiding my steps. Teach me to pause, pray, and follow Your voice just like Jacob did. Thank You for being faithful to provide, even when I can’t see the whole picture. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
