“The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out. By insolence comes nothing but strife, but with those who take advice is wisdom.” — Proverbs 13:9–10

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” — Genesis 50:20

Have you ever had someone try to bring you down, only for God to turn it around and use it to grow you stronger? That’s exactly what Joseph experienced. His brothers betrayed him, sold him into slavery, and thought they’d never see him again. But God had a bigger plan.

In Genesis 50:20, Joseph explains to his brothers that even though they meant to harm him, God used it for good. Then, in Proverbs 13:9–10, we’re reminded that when we live righteously and walk humbly, our lives shine bright—like lights in a dark world. The proud stir up conflict, but the wise choose to listen and grow.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Let Your Light Shine: Are your words and actions showing the joy and light of someone who follows Jesus? A righteous life doesn’t mean a perfect one—but it does mean choosing to reflect God’s goodness.

2. Check Your Heart: Are you quick to argue or slow to listen? Proverbs tells us pride leads to conflict. Humility—being willing to take advice or admit when we’re wrong—is a mark of maturity and wisdom.

3. Trust God’s Bigger Picture: Have you gone through something unfair or painful? Like Joseph, you might not understand it now, but God can bring good out of it in ways you never imagined.

BOTTOM LINE

God calls us to be people of light and humility, trusting Him even when life feels unfair. He can turn even the darkest moments into part of a much bigger, beautiful story.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who brings light into darkness and purpose out of pain. Help me to live with a humble heart, to listen and grow in wisdom, and to trust Your plan even when it doesn’t make sense. Let my life shine with Your joy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
