“It’s hunger and loneliness that drive the prodigal son back to his Father. He’s not having some epiphany that all the sinful ‘dissolute living’ needs to be atoned for. Nor has his conscience been weighing on him. It is his physical hunger and his psychological loneliness that prompt the son’s decision to go back to his father.”
