What Day Is It?

March 4, 2018 - National Dance the Waltz Day

Listen Later

Today is March 4th, 2018, and it is National "Dance the Waltz" Day. The waltz is a ballroom and folk dance performed in a closed position to "three-fourths" (3/4) or triple-time" (3x) music. While its roots are in folk dances of the late 1500s the waltz was not formalized until the mid-1700s. Some examples of modern waltz songs are “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS, “The Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog, “Gravity” by John Mayer, and “If I knew Then” by Lady Antebellum - just to name a few!
