“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise. If the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!” — Proverbs 11:30–31

“Then Abram said to Lot, ‘Let there be no strife between you and me…for we are kinsmen.’” — Genesis 13:8

“And he brought back all the possessions, and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his possessions, and the women and the people.” — Genesis 14:16

Sometimes the choices we make in relationships—especially family or close friendships—can either build peace or stir up drama. In Genesis 13, Abraham (then called Abram) had a real chance to fight over land and power with his nephew Lot. But instead, he chose peace and trusted God with the outcome.

Later, when Lot got into serious trouble (he literally got captured in a war), Abraham risked everything to rescue him (Genesis 14). This story shows how living righteously—being kind, peaceful, and selfless—bears fruit, just like Proverbs 11:30 says. When we live like this, it impacts others in ways we can’t always see. Your character today can become someone’s lifeline tomorrow.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Choose Peace Over Power: When Abraham gave Lot the first choice of land, he let go of control. Where in your life can you choose peace instead of being right or in charge?

2. Live Like a Tree of Life: Proverbs says the righteous are like a “tree of life.” Are your actions producing life-giving fruit—like love, patience, or kindness—in your school, family, or friend group?

3. Courage to Rescue: Abraham didn’t just walk away when Lot messed up—he showed up. Are there people in your life who need someone to care enough to reach out, forgive, or help them through a tough time?

BOTTOM LINE

Living with integrity, choosing peace, and showing up for others are powerful ways God uses us to bring life, healing, and hope into the world around us. Don’t underestimate the impact of a righteous choice—it might just be someone else’s rescue plan.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me through Abraham’s story how important it is to live with peace, wisdom, and love. Help me be someone who brings life to others through my choices. Give me the courage to step up when someone needs help, and the humility to choose peace even when it’s hard. Grow in me the kind of faith that trusts You with the outcome. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
