“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.” — Proverbs 12:1 (ESV)

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped.” — Psalm 28:7 (ESV)

“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.” — Job 19:25 (ESV)

Have you ever had one of those days when everything feels like it’s going wrong—friend drama, grades slipping, family stress—and you wonder if God even sees you? Job knew that feeling all too well. He lost almost everything, and in Job 19 he cried out in deep pain. Yet even in the middle of the mess, he declared, “I know that my Redeemer lives.” David in Psalm 28 had similar moments of desperation, but he trusted God to be his shield and strength. And Proverbs 12:1 reminds us that even hard times—and even correction—can teach us something if we’re willing to listen.

God never promises life will be easy, but He does promise His strength, His presence, and the hope of redemption when things fall apart.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Lessons in Hard Times: What’s one tough experience in your life that taught you something about yourself or about God? How did it shape you?

2. God as Your Shield: David called God his strength and shield (Psalm 28:7). What does it look like to actually lean on God when life gets hard instead of just trying to fix things yourself?

3. Hope That Lasts: Job said, “I know that my Redeemer lives” even before he saw things get better. How can you hold on to hope when you can’t yet see the ending of your story?

BOTTOM LINE

Even when life feels heavy, you can trust that God is your strength, your shield, and the One who brings hope out of the hardest moments.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You that You see me when life feels overwhelming. Help me trust You as my strength and shield and remind me that my Redeemer lives, even when things don’t make sense. Teach me to learn from challenges and to hold on to hope in You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
