March 9th, is officially Elvira Day.

In 1984, Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley proclaimed March 9th to be Elvira Day to honor the success and contributions of Cassandra Peterson (the actress behind the character) to the city. Peterson, who became a cultural icon as the "Mistress of the Dark," first debuted her gothic persona on Los Angeles television station KHJ-TV in 1981.
