Christian Marching Orders 1 Kings 2:1-4
We- as the Christian church must endure until the return of Christ. That’s our main mission. David is wanting to impart into Solomon some solid truths to sustain him as he takes over Kingship and ensure that the throne is filled while they wait for messiah. Solomon wasn’t a perfect king. He did some good- wealth, land, influence Some bad- Making deals with Egypt and not fully trusting GodBut I don’t want to point to Solomons life as the example this morning- I want to focus in on What David challenged Solomon with- Maintain Israel until messiah comes The main point is this- do the right things and good things will happen and kings will reign in Israel. Keep your eye on the prize. Don’t lose focus. Don’t be a dirtbag. David told Solomon what to do- it was good and righteous and God glorifying. The outcome of Solomons life is irrelevant to our message this morning. The question is on you- will YOU be obedient to what you know that God has told YOU to do.
Get saved- You have to be part of the family of God- few types of people in this church this morning- the saved- the lost and the I think I’m saved. If not repented and turned from your sins and received Christ’s forgiveness you’re not saved. Quit lying to yourself thinking that you’re going to heaven for any reason other than JesusNow John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”If you’re not a believer in Jesus- and haven’t repented from your sins- the Bible says that God’s wrath is on you. He’s not pleased with you. He is upset with how you’re living. You need to turnIn every Church in America there are people who ‘play church’. Love the songs. The people. Right now- be honest with God and yourself- If you haven’t repented- TURN TO GODRomans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”Admit that you’re a sinner that needs a savior- Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,Confess- Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.Repent! Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord
Be a part of the church- Keep his statuesWhen David told Solomon to ‘keep his statutes’ theres a message there- Christian people have statutes of God that we need to keep- Gathering together for worship- fellowship- discipleship-giving-serving-But if you’re saved- if you call yourself a Christian- you need to make being at church a priorityHebrews 10:24-25 READ not forsake the gatheringWe are living in perilous times- if we’re not part of the church- we’re not going to make it. Watching people get involved in other stuff- you can find love at a bar- do what they doIf church is a ‘have to’ I question your salvation. I wonder if you truly love Jesus or if its something else. You shouldn’t have to convince someone to come to church. Make a commitment to make this your last church. Quit shopping. Be committed!How can you walk out this verse if you aren’t a part of a local church? You cant! 1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.God has given you gifts that he wants to use in your life to lead other people to HIM Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.Be in church every week. Tithe- It’s the way that God supports his church. Invite people to church. Serve at church. Help out. Invite people. Protect her. Defend her. Hold her in high regard.
