Every year in Dayton Ohio, 300 teams of students from all parts of America compete in the finals of a

national competition known as the Color Guard, where the moves

of football marching bands into artistic dance.

Troupes throw, spin, and twirl flags, sabers, and wooden rifles in a giant sports arena. The narratives

depict everything from the death of a pet, tornado destruction, women in

rock history, abducted children, and bullying. Is the event recreational and

innocent, or is there a dark side that has barely been investigated?
