In this scripture reading, we listen to Gospel of Mark 2:23–3:6.
In this powerful passage, Jesus challenges religious expectations around the Sabbath, declares that “the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath,” and heals a man with a withered hand in the synagogue. As tension with the Pharisees grows, we begin to see more clearly who Jesus is — and what matters most in the Kingdom of God.
Take time to slow down, listen carefully, and allow the words of scripture to speak. You may find it helpful to listen more than once, or follow along in your own Bible.
