Mark Herschberg: Essential skills for success that no one taught you

Listen Later

What are the skills that you wish you’d had when you first entered the workforce? What skills do you believe to be the most important for success at work and in life? And how did you learn them?

In this episode, I’m joined by Mark Herschberg. Mark has spent his career launching and fixing new ventures at startups, Fortune 500s, and academia. He’s developed new software languages, online marketplaces, new authentication systems, and tracked criminals and terrorists on the dark web.

He’s used all that knowledge and experience to help create the Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program, MIT’s “Career Success Accelerator”, which he has taught for twenty years. More recently, he’s written The Career Toolkit, Essential Skills for Success That No One Taught You. He is also  a nationally-ranked US ballroom dancer.

He’s here to talk with me about the most important skills we need for success in the 21st century. If you are a leader, manager, recruiter, self-employed, mid-way through your career, or a graduate, this one's for you.
