Burnout in ministry is one of the most difficult challenges in serving Christ. While the issue is obviously multifaceted, Dr. Mark Jones talks about—from his own experience—the underlying problem of pride. This is a temptation for those particularly in pastoral ministry. We want the bigger church, the greater influence and the more significant legacy. But that’s an insidious manifestation of the sins of envy and selfish ambition (i.e. James 3:13-16).
