Mark Selby and I chat about a lot of randomness including Passover, haircuts, Hart House Theatre, Canadian Screen Awards, Air Farce and the Howie Mandel special “But Enough About Me” (available on Crave)
A little about Mark Selby (as taken from his website): "Currently in production on Oscar Peterson: Black + White, a new feature documentary from Barry Avrich for Bell Media, my recent credits include From Ontario With Love, a live all-star New Year’s Eve concert; the critically-acclaimed feature documentary Howie Mandel: But Enough About Me; live primetime specials for the Scotiabank Giller Prize with FRANK Content for CBC; the Canadian Screen Awards with Insight Productions; and the retrospective documentary Beyond Famous: Canada's Walk of Fame. In the comedy world, I was the inaugural comedy programmer for Canada’s Stratford Festival, programming a diverse roster of international talent for the Festival’s first-ever stand-up comedy showcase, prior to the season’s cancellation due to the pandemic. Previously, for the Just For Laughs comedy festival, I programmed events, shows, and screenings, including the first Just For Laughs Film Festival; organized an all-star comedy fundraiser; and produced a short film competition and digital stand-up series in collaboration with Lionsgate and Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud Network. My long association with the legendary Air Farce sketch comedy troupe lasted over 15 years, from the weekly series to the annual New Year’s Eve specials that regularly ranked as CBC’s highest-rated comedy show. I am an Honours B.A. graduate with Distinction from the University of Toronto, where I produced and directed shows for the historic U.C. Follies and Hart House Theatre. Occasionally, you can also find me at the piano as a musical director, composer, performance coach, and accompanist for theatre, cabaret, auditions, and workshops. TL;DR: I help execute high-rated, award-winning, talent-driven projects for major networks, distributors, and events – especially for live TV; I create and manage relationships with high-level talent; and I develop new work and strengthen existing content as a producer, programmer, or consultant."
