Below is Mark's Introduction:

My name is Mark Thompson, and I am running for the open Van City Council Place # 4 seat.  For those of you that may not know me, please allow me to introduce myself.  I’m married to Lori, my wife of 44 years.  We moved here from Central America in 2005 after seven years on the mission field with Mercy Ships.  We have four adult children, all of whom have attended Van ISD.  Our youngest both graduated for Van HS.  We also have four grandchildren living here in Van.

I served for four years in the Army, am a civil engineer by education and currently a consultant in business and project management, with a subspecialty in emergency management and planning. Lori and I have been business owners here in Van since just after the tornado in 2015. I have served on the Van Economic Development Corporation Board for the past five years and have been a member of the Van City Master Planning Committee who developed the recently adopted City 2021 Comprehensive (Master) Plan.

I have attended the monthly meetings and supported our City Council for the past seven years and do not have a particular challenge with how they have been managing our fair city.  My desires for running for this open City Council seat include the furtherance of progress made since the tornado, helping to further the full development and implementation of the new Comprehensive Plan, and assisting to help ensure our readiness for any future emergency or disaster-related events which may affect our town.  If elected, I will do my best to fully represent the citizens of Van while maintaining the duties and responsibilities of this post to the best of my ability.
