Exacerbate make (a problem, a difference, bad situation, or negative feeling) worse. Scorners make issue worse. The elite convinces the masses that their interests are the same. Often use religion and national pride to convince the poor to sacrifice others and themselves. 

Fraudsters hijack Christianity to cover their corrupt deeds that is opposite of Christian deeds. If it is not a righteous cause do not participate.

Exodus 23:1 Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 23:2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to [do] evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest [judgment]: 23:3 Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.
