“Marked by an Unyielding Love”
Song of Solomon 8:6
"Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD."
In the ancient world, a seal was far more than a decorative mark. Carved into stone or metal and pressed into warm wax, a signet seal signified ownership, authority, and unbreakable commitment. To ask to be set as a seal upon your heart is to desire an indelible place of affection and protection—a mark thatdeclares, “I belong to you, and you belong to me.”
This verse offers a breathtaking glimpse into the intensity of genuine love. It speaks of a devotion so fierce that it stands on equal footing with the finality of death. Death is unyielding; it claims everything in its path without compromise. Yet, Scripture tells us here that true love possesses that same unstoppable power. When you feel insecure, forgotten, or overwhelmed by the noise of the world, remember where you are placed. Upon His heart, you are deeply loved, held in His innermost affections. Upon His arm, you are securely held by His almighty strength and protection.
Rest in security and take a quiet moment today to press your hand over your heart. Remind yourself: "I am sealed and held by a love stronger than death."
