And the marketing team will generally be going through several stages of re-strategising, as described by Jacob in this particular episode. Jacob first started marketing PicUp with family and friends. PicUp then went on to hiring a Business Development Representative without any marketing & sales qualified leads. Then they realised it over a period of time to first strengthen up their marketing strategies before trying to sell their product.   

As an early stage startup, you will have to optimally utilise your resources in hand to get the best result for your business. It is quite common for 1 person to wear multiple hats while working at a startup, which also provides you with an opportunity to learn multiple things at once.
