A rich invitation into deeper Belonging in Christ, fuller identity, and profound Mission. Paul calls us to see no one from a worldly perspective, seeing ourselves and others as a new creation in Christ! The old has gone, and the new has come. 

2 Corinthians 5:16-21

Questions to consider—

Withward [Community]: How is my understanding of and engagement with the church being formed during this Gathering?

Forward [Journey]: What is a practical next step I can take in my journey of following the way of Jesus?

It's a tough reality to face, and yet Paul seems convinced that keeping death before his audience is not something to fear. In fact, he finds confidence and comfort even in the face of death, trusting in the God who fashioned him/us and gave him/us the Spirit as a guarantee of what is to come. 

2 Corinthians 5:1-9

Questions to consider—

Upward [Celebration]: Which attributes of God am I noticing and delighting in throughout the Gathering?

Inward: [Wholeness]: How might the Holy Spirit be encouraging transformation in me?

What is Paul doing when he holds up contrasting realities throughout his letters? Supporting his rhetoric is an understanding of the world because of Jesus' incarnation: the duality of AND has been replaced by the up-closeness of IN. 

2 Corinthians 4:7-11

Questions to consider—

Backward [Roots]: What personal stories, Biblical narratives, or church traditions are being drawn to my mind in this Gathering?

Upward [Celebration]: Which attributes of God am I noticing and delighting in throughout the Gathering?

Inward: [Wholeness]: How might the Holy Spirit be encouraging transformation in me?

Paul uses strong imagery to capture the ways God's unlimited power can be demonstrated in the limited lives of people: comfort, aroma, and letter. 

2 Corinthians 2:14-17

Forward [Journey]: What is a practical next step I can take in my journey of following the way of Jesus?

Inward: [Wholeness]: How might the Holy Spirit be encouraging transformation in me?

Paul Begins his 2nd [4th?] letter to the church in Corinth by reminding them that Christ has been, is, and will be their only true comfort and security in suffering. Where are the places we pursue comfort? Where else can they lead us?
