Keeping the Law in Christ.

In this second message in our series on Biblical Sexuality, we examine the husband's calling from Ephesians 5:25-31: "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her." The Apostle Paul does not begin with sentiment or negotiation. He issues a clear command rooted in creation and redemption. The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church (Ephesians 5:23). This order is not cultural but creational—Adam was formed first, then Eve—and it forms a living parable of the gospel. The husband pictures Christ the Head; the wife pictures the church in glad submission. True headship is sacrificial, decisive leadership. Husbands are called to nourish and cherish their wives as their own bodies, speak the Word into the home, set the spiritual direction, cover sin, protect from danger, and present their wives holy and blameless. We explore biblical examples of faithful headship (Job, Hosea, Martin Luther) and the tragic consequences when it is abandoned (Aaron, Dinah, David). We also address our common failures as men and women and point to the hope of the gospel: Christ loved His bride while we were still rebels. Men are called to lead even when met with resistance. Women are called to repent of rebellion and flourish under godly covering. This message is a call for men to embrace their glory as heads and protectors, and for women to embrace their glory in submission—rejecting the egalitarian spirit of our age and returning to God's good design for the home and the church.
