Martin O'Hagan fought for the IRA during the conflict in Northern Ireland in the 1970s. But he swapped the gun for the typewriter, becoming a well regarded muckraking journalist. He was assassinated in a drive-by shooting in 2001, the victim of a paramilitary group whose members he had been investigating.
