Martin Riordan, chief executive of TAFE Directors Australia, says that declining apprenticeship numbers are an issue for the federal government, especially since former prime minister Tony Abbott cut $2 billion from apprenticeships and traineeships while he was in power.

Riordan also calls on the federal government to include the VET sector into its innovation agenda.
