In the Gospel of John, Mary Magdalene plays a remarkable role. Together with the mother of Jesus and the beloved disciple, she was at the foot of the cross at the moment of Jesus’ death (John 19:25). Then, early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, she came to the tomb and was the first to discover that it was empty (John 20:1). (John 20:11-18)
