When it comes to the virginity of Mary the most problematic aspect of that belief comes when the Church tells us that she was always a virgin, even after Jesus was born. A lot of this comes from our "modern" ideas about sexuality and misunderstanding about the ancient world and how relatives in families beyond immediate members could be called "brothers" or "sisters".
