Luke's narrative of the angel Gabriel's encounter with Mary is, and forever will be, extraordinary! The humble betrothed young lady from the small town of Nazareth had her life changed forever following this angelic one-on-one conference. And then after Gabriel gives a macro sketch of what her Son, not to mention God's Son, will accomplish, Luke records Mary's incredible response to Gabriel. "And Mary said, 'Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.'” (Luke 1:38, ESV) While understandably curious how all this would come about, Mary is neither doubtful nor dismissive, she simply responds with a soft and obedient heart. When it came to Jesus and what she witnessed of her Son, the Scriptures affirm that Mary quietly treasured all these in heart; that includes all He said and all He did. Deep down Mary knew she not only gave birth to THE Savior and Lord but also to HER Savior and Lord! Gloria in excelsis Deo!
