In this episode, I interview Mas Bokus about his latest album "Reconnecting"
We talk about process, inspiration, world travel, and much more.
Mas Bokus is a solo music project founded in 2018 by Jakob von Massenbach in Berlin, Germany. For Jakob, this moniker is an outlet for crafting cinematic, story-telling albums that are not restrained by genre, tempo or trends.
The most recent album “Reconnecting” takes a turn from the previous “Virtual Places” to a more grounded, personal exploration of reality. In the 4-year gap between the two albums, Jakob has been honing his skills as a producer, finding a new method of compiling an album, as well as simply experiencing life. He says in an interview on “Insight Music” “For this album, I was mostly inspired by the world around me and experiences I had. Most of the time, I’m unconsciously trying to recreate memories and processing them through music.”
Jakob has no formal education in music and is self-taught, learning various Instruments that fit his compositions. While having no educational background in music, he does have a background of studying and working as an architect in the field of preservation for a few years.
