Mason Rodrigue: Every Veteran Should Tell Their Story

Listen Later

Mason Rodrigue (pronounced "road rig") was born in southern Louisiana and grew up playing football and seeking self-validation as a man. This desire, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks, led him to enlist in the US Marine Corps and eventually his service in Syria as a machine gunner. Mason left the Marine Corps as a lance corporal and began to put his thoughts into the printed word. He is the author of Rock Eater, a collection of his poetry and thoughts about philosophy and military life that describes "what happens when a man gets turned into a weapon and aimed at nothing." Like many veterans, Mason finds writing about his experiences to be therapeutic, noting that in the shared veteran experience, "every story is different, but every story is the same."

From southern Louisiana to college to the Marine Corps, and then Syria and back again, these... are Mason Rodrigue's Battlefields.
