A steadfast lady, Matangini didn't hesitate to voice her discontent over the British rule in India. She actively partook in the freedom struggle and pledged her devotion to Mahatma Gandhi. She organised protests over the unfair laws the British enforced which lead to her spending several stints in jail.
Matangini quiet literally gave her life for her country, as she was killed during an open firing on her and her fellow supporters.
