Remember Truth

Materialism and How to Fight it | Matthew 6:19-21

Listen Later

Friends, the verse of the week is

Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

In this episode Raizel and Xenia discuss recognizing idols in your life. Fill in the blank, “If I could just have ____ I would be happy.”

Is there something you find yourself longing for, running to, dwelling on, finding pleasure in, that isn’t the Lord? Many things in this life are good things until they become ultimate things.

Xenia takes time to share some vulnerable thoughts and struggles she experienced while on her honeymoon due to misplaced pleasure, and her prayer to view the Lord has her ultimate treasure.

Resources/ Quotes mentioned the this episode:

“Which makes the fight of faith in the Christian life a fight for delight. And yes, it often involves denying ourselves pleasure, but only denying ourselves a lesser, viler pleasure in order to have a much higher pleasure.”

“Pleasure is the measure of your treasure” - Jon Bloom https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/pleasure-is-the-measure-of-your-treasure

“To lay up for yourselves treasure on earth is also to doom yourself to a life of frustration and emptiness. Regarding material things the secret to happiness is not more, it is contentment.” David Guzik
