Assessment data show that math and reading scores for American 9-year-old students fell dramatically during the first two years of the pandemic. Nationally, reading scores saw the largest drop in 30 years, while math scores had their first dip in the history of the testing regimen behind the study, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, a branch of the U.S. Education Department. But schools are aggressively targeting the “COVID-19” slide with initiatives to reverse the trend and inspire a trajectory of learning.
