Matt Andersen is a soul powerhouse whose folk-pop ballads focus on the trials of humanity through an experiential lens. He’s an open, empathetic man who nonetheless observes the difficulties people have connecting and remaining in harmony. His backing band, the Bona Fide, provides an array of roots instrumentation from trombone to banjo all in an effort to fill out Andersen’s massive careening hollers and thick, chewy vocalizations. Here in the studio, the band manifests itself as a simple rock quartet; using the streamlined set-up they produce straight-forward, heroic tunes that invite you to sway and sing along.
