Matt Cunningham is a fourth-generation farmer in Marysville, Ohio, and the founder of Rustic Brew Farms. The family farm, which was started by his great-grandfather, has traditionally grown corn, soybeans, and wheat. In 2014, Cunningham and his wife, Michelle, diversified the farm's crops to include barley and hops in order to adapt to a challenging agricultural economy.
Cunningham built an on-farm malthouse to process the barley he grows and also dries and pelletizes hops. Rustic Brew Farms supplies these ingredients to numerous Ohio craft breweries, including North High Brewing and Grove City Brewing Co. The farm's products, which are 100% Ohio-grown and processed, are known for giving local brewers a tangible connection to the state's agriculture industry.
In addition to brewing ingredients, Rustic Brew Farms produces a line of stone-ground flours, including sprouted corn, wheat, and rye flour. Cunningham has also launched Rustic Farm Distillery, which produces spirits like wheat vodka using grains grown entirely on the farm. He plans to release whiskey and bourbon in the future
