Matt Whineray has taken the reins as the Super Fund chief executive.
He told Mike Hosking the role doesn't come without challenges.
"Markets have returned to a bit of volatility this year, so it's got a bit bumpy, but that's probably just a more normal state than the very sort of calm state we saw last year."
New Zealand's Super Fund earns average returns of about 10 percent a year.
