Jesus tells the crowd who John the Baptist is, and how this generation didn't respond as they should have to him. Will you come to Christ? Do you feel burdened? You will find rest in Christ.

- John doubts
- Christ witnesses x. Isaiah
- Fulfills O.T. on Christ - Is. 8:14-15; 28:16; Ps. 118:22-23
- x. Malachi 3:1; Elijah - Malachi 4:5-6
- Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence
II. The Response of this Generation v.16-24
But
- this generation didn't respond to the message - "you didn't dance to the music"
- Woe to cities Chorazi, Bethsaida
- Tyre and Sidon, Sodom and Gomorrah - Gentile cities judged for their sin and pride.
- More tolerable on the day of judgment - greater judgment because of a greater witness
- There is judgment for rejecting Christ.
III. Come to Me v.25-30
Why? V.25-27 - God, Lord of heaven and earth, has hidden it from the "wise and understanding"
- The Son chooses to reveal the Father
- Invitation - Come to Me
- Weary and heavy laden
- Rest
- Yoke - teaching and way of life.To come under Jesus' authority. Not oppressive slavery but restful.
- It's light and restful because we are yoked to Jesus, and he is strong.
Truth -
- God is Lord of Heaven and Earth and hides the Kingdom of Heaven from the proud and will judge their sin.
- Christ reveals the Father to whom He chooses
- Christ gives rest to those who come to Him
Application:
- Are you Heavy laden? Burdened? Has searching for rest and refreshment been like trying to grasp air?
- Christ promises Rest if you will come to Him
- Will you dance to the music?
